Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family and volunteering in the community. Selmon is the youngest of children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They had him raised on the family farm near Eufala. In football, he played with his three brothers for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in across the country. In the three years that Roy was a starter, Oklahoma won two National Championships. He received a third scholarship in 1975, and was designated an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering in his college days. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers nine seasons and became an all-pro. He also began a career in business. By 1988, he became an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. No wonder that in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's top 10 young men. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6-2. In his time at for college, he was the head coach of the 1975 team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an Associate Director of Sports. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 as well as by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
