Selena
Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16, 1971-March 31 1995), also known as Selena, is an American Tejano performer. Her contributions to music and fashion led to her being the "Queen" of Tejano music. She was among the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers of late 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third in 2020 in their "Greatest Latino Artists List of All Time", which was inspired by Latin songs as well as Latin albums. Her fashion choices earned her the name "Tejano Madonna". Her clothes choices are what gave her the name "Tejano Madonna" by various media outlets. Quintanilla Quintanilla. In the 80s, she was regularly criticised and refused bookings in venues across Texas because she performed Tejano music, a genre of music that is dominated by males. Her popularity grew when she received the Tejano Music Award as Female Vocalist-of-the Year in 1987. It was awarded nine times. In 1989 she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album, Entre a Mi Mundo (1992). Her brother was her primary music producer and the songwriter. Entre a Mi Mundo reached number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums charts for eight consecutive weeks. Its commercial success led music critics to call it the "breakthrough" recording of her career. "Como la Flor", one of its singles, became her beloved hit song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido was her 1994 album. It became one of America's top Latin albums. It was widely praised as having been the cause of Tejano music's first marketable era because it became one the most sought-after Latin music subgenres of the time.
